Project management by common sense

Let me share some of the common sense principles I (try to) apply in my activity as project manager:

- keep the project as simple as possible: this the most important and the most difficult principle to keep.

- put together a compelling selling message: stakeholders must buy in the project.

- a delivery project is completely different that an analysis and research undertaking.

- not everybody must be involved in everything: democracy does not work for project management

- talk to every stakeholder in the language they can fully understand.

- take into account opinion from those who are talking about their previous expirience or sound knowledge, otherwise just listen.

- show a milestone plan at the very beginning of the project.

- repeat the name of the project as much as possible can in the initial meetings.

- none else but the project manager must make decissions, (s)he will be accountable for them.

Strawberries

This evening I felt like buying some fresh fruit for dinner and there was a guy by the sidewalk selling strawberries, I came by and saw two types, the Germans, 5 € per basket and the Spanish, 2 € per basket .... I thought it over and .... please, don't ask me why I chose the Germans .... by the way, they are delicious ....

Factura electronica

.... lo cierto es que el servicio de Factura Electrónica de Vodafone España lleva sin funcionar tres semanas, como mínimo .....

How beer is seen in German language

... the other day my German language teacher was telling me all alcoholic beverages take masculine gender in German (der Whisky, der Wein, der Sekt, ...) but Bier which takes neutral gender ... like bread (das Brot) ... beer is seen closer to bread than to wine.

.... it was probably just a mnemotecnic rule to help to remember such exception ... it was funny

He configurado Thunderbird

Como tengo varias cuentas de correo, me di cuenta de que tenia un montón de ventanas permanentemente abiertas para mirar mi correo de yahoo, gmail, hotmail y alguna otra cuenta webmail.

En mi avance hacia las aplicaciones de software libre, me bajé Thunderbird y me puse a configurarlo, tarea que lleva algún tiempo ya que la versión que te bajas no lleva ninguna extensión, o add-on, por lo que hay que añadir alguno que otro.

La cuenta de GMail la puedes bajar mediante POP3 y no te hace falta ninguna extensión, pero si quieres tener acceso a todas las carpetas, tienes que utilizar IMAP y para eso te hace falta la extensión "Gmail IMAP account setup".
La pega que me surge es que GMail es bastante bueno como gestor de correo, con acceso offline y a otras cuentas y unas cuantas cosillas que están añadiendo que lo hacen muy atractivo.
La de hotmail, he conseguido bajarla mediante POP3 también, aqui se pueden encontrar la instrucciones.
Además, he bajado una extensión que permite encontrar los mensajes que tengas repetidos y eliminarlos fácilmente.

Otra extensión que es bueno bajar es la de Lightning ya que Thunderbird viene sin calendario. Con otra extensión, puedes sincronizar tu Google Calendar y con otra más tus tareas the RTM (rememberthemilk.com)

En total, tengo 16 extensiones instaladas y hace que sea una solución bastante flexible, pero lleva algún tiempo dejarlo fino. Tengo pendiente ver cómo hacerlo para que cuando instale Ubuntu, no tenga que hacer la configuración entera desde el principio.

Si alguien es tan friki como yo (o mas) y quiere la lista completa de extensiones, que me deje un comentario.
